Spore Sprouting Presentation

Phenomenally Photographed Fungi

During the Nomadic Fungi Spore Sprouting Test the staff at NFI were click, click, clicking away, filling up one memory card after another with photographs in hopes of capturing every nuance within each spore sprouting jar. Click, click click. Click, click click. A digital mountain of photographs.

Those photographs were about scientific standards for documentation. They were not about capturing an image that clearly defines the scope and beauty of these lab samples. For that NFI needed a photographer with saperiour skills, and who would not be overly concerned about exposing their camera equipment to a fungus that loves to eat things like circuit boards, rubber gaskets, and alkaline batteries....

Who did we find? Who else but the very brave and extremly talented photographer Barry Snidow. He is a master at light refraction and a poet with an SLR.
He gave each NFI Lab Sample the full New York Fashion Week treatment.

They look marvelous darling!

The Nature of Cordyceps

This film clip was taken during the Nature of Cordyceps exhibition held at the Gallery at North Haven Gardens in Dallas Texas. It was the first public exhibition of documents pulled from the Nomadic Fungi Institute archives and focused as an introduction to what cordyceps are and how they could be related to nomadic fungi.

NFI Director Subject For Photographer

Bard Ford Smith

Last month during a rare outing our Director, the obsessively dedicated and sun deprived research junkie, Dr. B.F. Smith PhD ended up at the photography studio of the very talented and gracious Kent Barker.

Kent has been working on a series he calls The Creatives. In this series he is documenting a cross section of the creative community living in Dallas Texas. This community includes painters, designers, architects, photographers, dancers, writers and now one musty smelling archivist from the Nomadic Fungi Institute.

Dr. Smith is pictured here in a freshly cleaned lab coat proudly displaying three jars containing successfully sprouted Nomadic Fungi. The staff at NFI are very proud of this portrait and are truly amazed at Kent's ability to capture the more dignified side of our Director.

Dr. Graybones And His Curious Knapsack is Sold Out!

Nomadic Fungi Institute
We just received word from Deep Vellum Books that the White Rock Zine Machine zines is completely sold out!

That means all of the signed first editions of Dr. Graybones and His Curious Knapsack are SOLD OUT!

But don't worry, we're looking into publishing a second edition with a slightly bigger format, which will give us more room for additional text.

We're researching a few micro grants to help cover the production cost.

Lisa Huffaker at the White Rock Zine Machine is already corralling a new batch of writers and artists for her third flight of zines. Check out their website for updates.
